Birmingham is the British home of Balti, and Visit Birmingham have announced dates for their 2007 Balti Breaks, when visitors can learn all about the Birmingham balti

Birmingham is the home in Britain of balti cooking. What is Balti? You can read all about it in Balti 101. Click here.

The first Birmingham Balti Break is Saturday April 28, 2007, based at the Royal Naim restaurant. You can include a night's accommodation too, if you book on the Visit Birmingham website, or you can make your own arrangements.

On 30th June the restaurant featured is Zeb's. The afternoon kicks off with a cook-off, when you can learn the trade secrets of how to cook perfect pakoras and superb samosas. You then get a tour of Birmingham's famous Balti Triangle, including a visit to a traditional sweet shop and a chance to see some of the jewelry and textiles also sold here. The day finishes with a 3-course Balti meal, and a quiz to test your new-found Balti knowledge.

Other weekends follow a similar format and the dates are:

  • September 1st at Al Falsals restaurant
  • October 27 at the Royal Naim
  • December 8 at Al Frash
