Events for the Yuletide York 2007 Celebration in Yorkshire UK
York offers a full slate of festivities for the Yorkshire holiday season such as Christmas markets, caroling, fairs, outdoor skating, street entertainment, cruises.
The historic buildings and cobblestone streets of York England set the perfect scene for Christmas celebrations. From the end of November until Christmas, there are activities throughout that appeal to all ages.
York Ice Factor
York's outdoor ice rink will be open on November 17th and continue to January 6th. The Castle Museum, Law Courts and Clifford’s Tower surround the ice rink with theatrical lighting and decorated Christmas trees. The oak tree in the center of the rink will be illuminated with twinkling fairy lights. Skaters and viewers can warm up with mulled wine and a meal at the rink side bar and café.
Castle Howard, the Family Home at Christmas
From November 24th to December 16th, Castle Howard will be open for the Christmas season. The manor will be decorated with the Howard family’s own collection of Yuletide decorations plus music and stories of Christmas past. In the gardens, visitors can explore the Christmas trails and meet Father Christmas in his Grotto. The restaurant and café feature seasonal food. The various shops at Castle Howard offer lovely Christmas decorations and unique gifts.
St Nicholas Fayre Market 2007 York
Starting on November 29th and ending on December 2nd, open air stalls will be set up at various locations in York offering crafts, artwork, glassware, jewellery collectibles and many other gift items. In addition, there will be hand made cheeses, baked goods, wine and Christmas cake. This venue would not be complete without carol singers and hot refreshments. The stalls can be found at Coppergate, Kings Square, St Sampson’s Square, Parliament Street and the Guildhall.
Carols at York’s Kirkgate
This popular event takes place every evening from December 4th to December 11th. These festive performances will feature the York Philharmonic Male Voice Choir surrounded by the Victorian atmosphere of Kirkgate.
York Santa Cruises
One hour cruises on the River Ouse begin on December 6th and run through to December 20th. Enjoy on board entertainment designed with kids in mind. Each child will receive a special gift from Santa. This is a sell out event so it’s essential to book early.
Cruises run:
- Thursdays at 5pm and 7pm
- Saturdays at 11am, 1pm and 3pm
- Sundays at 11am, 1pm, 3pm,5pm and 7pm
York Festival of Angels
Beautiful ice sculptures set the scene for this popular two day event at ‘the Quarter’ in York City Centre on December 8th and 9th. There will be stalls offering food and drink plus plenty of street entertainment. Snowflakes that drift down from the upper storeys of adjacent buildings add the perfect seasonal touch.
York Santa’s Grotto
From December 8th to December 23rd, Santa’s Grotto will be open for children of all ages. In order to find Santa, visitors have to go through icy tunnels populated by penguins and polar bears. Every child receives a special gift.
Santa’s Plane at the Yorkshire Air Museum
The family can visit Santa every Saturday and Sunday from December 8th to December 23rd. The ticket for Santa’s Plane allows free admission to the Air Museum.
Handel's Messiah at York Minster
On December 8th, the magnificent York Minster will host a performance of Handel's Messiah. This traditional Christmas musical is presented by the York Musical Society and the Boyce Chamber Orchestra conducted by Philip Moore plus many outstanding soloists.
