The Rezare Farmhouse Bed & Breakfast in Cornwall's Tamar Valley offers good home-cooked food in a historic 17th-century building, hidden in a quiet Cornish village.

Cornwall is one of Britain's most popular tourist destinations, and good accommodation is plentiful, but it pays to book ahead. Quality bed and breakfasts are often very small, and the delightful and highly recommended Rezare Farmhouse b&b near Launceston has just four rooms: two doubles, one twin, and one single.

The Rooms

Most of the rooms have lovely views of the beautiful Tamar Valley countryside around Rezare. All rooms have ensuite facilities, a TV, free wifi internet access, central heating, tea and coffee facilities, 100% Egyptian cotton sheets, and each bed has a quilt handmade by the owner Nanette Manning, who runs the guesthouse with her husband Anthony.

Food and Drink

Each visitor to Rezare Farmhouse is asked to pay a voluntary donation of 25p per night towards the Tamar Grow Local scheme, which the owners support. The scheme encourages the sourcing of local produce, and ensures that good quality local food appears on the table for breakfast or dinner.

The Tamar Valley is famous for its apples, with some of the oldest and best orchards in Britain. The breakfast pure apple juice therefore comes from either Tamar Valley Apples, or from the owner's own apple trees, which also provide a small amount. Eggs come from their own chickens, and bread is fresh-baked daily. Yoghurt and granola are both home-made, and kippers and smoked salmon come from the Tregida Smokehouse.

Dinner is available if booked ahead, and it would be a shame to miss it as meals are cooked by Nanette using local produce (including from their own vegetable garden). Nanette worked in the catering industry for 20 years, rising to the position of Head Chef in several restaurants. Numerous cookbooks line the bookshelves, and Nanette conjures up dishes such as Pheasant and Puy Lentil Soup, Spinach and Mushroom Risotto, and Lemon Tart. Rezare Farmhouse is also licensed, and the drinks menu features local wines from the Camel Valley near Bodmin, beers, and of course ciders like the Cornish Orchards Farmhouse Cider.

Getting There

The Rezare Farmhouse website (see below) has a comprehensive list of transport options, including driving directions, train, bus, coach, taxi and ferry information, as well as the nearest airports. Links provide downloadable timetables. If traveling by train consider going to Plymouth and taking the Tamar Valley Line to Gunnerslake, which must be one of the most scenic little train rides in Britain.

Prices
