Great Yarmouth seafront offers all that is good, as well as much of what is bad, of an English seaside resort of days gone by. Kids love it!

Great Yarmouth seafront is crammed with amusement arcades, funfair rides, a sandy beach, and a whole range of other traditional British Seaside entertainments which guarantees a smile on the face of every child visitor!

Don’t expect genteel good taste in Great Yarmouth, prepare yourself for noisy, colorful, commercial entertainment. Saucy postcards, jellied eels and a palm reading clairvoyant all await you on the Golden Mile Seafront at Great Yarmouth.

Swimming and Marine Life

The Marina Leisure and Fitness Centre offers a range of sports facilities including a pool with wave machine and aqua slides, a children’s pool, squash courts, badminton, sauna, bowling and fitness centre. Tel: +44(0)1493 851521 for more details.

The Sea Life Centre on the sea front has lots of interesting sea creatures on display including sharks, stingrays and conger eels. Kids love the walkthrough underwater tunnel! Tel: + 44 (0)1493 330631.

The Britannia Pier

Great Yarmouth's Britannia pier hosts the usual range of fruit machines and other arcade games and an aqua slide, as well as the Britannia Theatre (tel: +44 (0)1493 842209) which offers shows for all the family, particularly in the summer season. Alongside the pier, short donkey rides are popular with small girls in the busy season, a very traditional activity on a British Beach.

Food in Great Yarmouth

You will find endless outlets for traditional seaside foods such as fish and chips, sticks of rock and other candy, as well as stalls selling fresh shellfish. The seafront restaurants are not for gourmets with refined tastes, typically they offer a wide range of inexpensive dishes such as steak and chips, fish and chips (served with plenty of salt and vinegar) and other traditional British fayre. As in any English town, Chinese and Indian restaurants are also popular, generally offering all you can eat buffet meals.

Travel from London to Great Yarmouth by train takes around 2 hours 40 minutes, changing at Norwich. Great Yarmouth train station is around 20 minutes by foot from the seafront. There are several car parks along the sea front, as well as pay and display roadside parking spaces. Great Yarmouth is around 2 ½ hours from London by car.
