Harry Potter and Other Cotswold Film LocationsNew Movie and TV Map Follows Bridget Jones, James Bond, Johnny Depp
Find the Cotswolds movie and TV locations for the Harry Potter films, Bridget Jones, and the Cotswold hotel where Johnny Depp stayed, and see where Doctor Who was filmed.
A new movie and TV location map has been published by Cotswolds and Forest of Dean Tourism showing visitors where scenes from films including Bridget Jones's Diary and various Harry Potter films were shot. It covers TV shows too, like Dennis Potter's brilliant and controversial series Pennies from Heaven and The Singing Detective, and Doctor Who. Harry Potter Film LocationsThree Harry Potter movies have filmed in the cloisters of Gloucester Cathedral, which are seen as the corridors that lead to Gryffindor House in Hogwarts. The films shot here were Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, and Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince. Read about Harry Potter London Locations too. Bridget Jones's Diary Film LocationsThe movie of Bridget Jones's Diary, starring Renée Zellweger, Hugh Grant, and Colin Firth had one memorable scene filmed in the Cotswolds. It was a scene at Bridget's parents' house, with carol singing in the snow. It was shot in the gorgeous Cotswolds village with the appropriate name of Snowshill, close to both Chipping Camden and Moreton-in-Marsh. And the snowy carol-singing scene was filmed in June. Shadowlands Film LocationThe Shadowlands movie which featured Anthony Hopkins and Debra Winger, and directed by Sir Richard Attenborough, had several scenes shot in the wonderful countryside around Symonds Yat in the Forest of Dean. James Bond on IceThe climax of the James Bond movie Die Another Day was filmed at a disused airbase, Little Rissington, just south of the popular Cotswolds town of Stow-on-the-Wold. Much ice was needed so a local company with the great name of Snow Business, who specialise in artificial snow and other winter effects, provided the freezing conditions. Cider with Rosie in SladOne of the great books about the Cotswolds, which every visitor should read, is Laurie Lee's Cider with Rosie. The much-acclaimed book, which is beautifully-written and evocative, is about the author's childhood in Slad, west of Cirencester. Laurie Lee used to enjoy a drink in the Woolpack, which is still there, and he is buried in the churchyard opposite the pub. When Cider with Rosie was turned into a TV film with Juliet Stevenson in 1998, they went back to the original setting. To find out which Cotswolds hotel Johnny Depp stayed in while filming The Libertine, and which pub he went too for a quiet pint, download the movie map for free from the official Cotswolds Tourism website. The site also has other free map downloads including the Cotswolds and the cities of Gloucester and Cheltenham. * See also Ten Best Things to Do in the Cotswolds *
