Where to Stay when Arriving at or Leaving London's Heathrow Airport

There are many 5-star and 4-star hotels in or near London's Heathrow Airport, for late arrivals or early departures, or if you have a stop-over on a flight.

While no traveler would want to spend an entire vacation at a Heathrow hotel, if it's necessary to spend just a short time here there are worse places to be based. There are fast train and tube services into central London. Heathrow is also only about 12 miles from Eton and Windsor Castle, making for a cheap and easy taxi ride for a day out, or just to pass a few hours in-between flights.

Crowne Plaza Hotel London Heathrow

The Crowne Plaza is right by the airport, just off Junction 4 of the M4 motorway. All rooms are fully air-conditioned with double-glazed windows and have high-speed internet access. There's cable TV, a phone with voice-mail and a desk to work at. There is a brasserie-style restaurant and two bars, and an indoor pool, gym and sauna.

Hilton London Heathrow Airport Hotel

Situated right by Heathrow Terminal 4, the Hilton is the only hotel directly connected to it by a covered walkway. There is also a shuttle bus to Terminal 5. The Hilton has three restaurants, and all guest rooms are soundproofed with large windows, high-speed internet, in-room magazines, black-out curtains, cable TV, phone with voice-mail, and a work desk. Facilities include a fitness centre, pool, and a business centre.

London Heathrow Marriott Hotel

The Marriott has 5 restaurants and lounges including Allie's American Grille, Costa Coffee and the Tuscany Italian restaurant. There's a heated indoor pool, and a leisure club. Rooms have cable TV, a choice of wired or wireless high-speed internet access.

Radisson Edwardian Heathrow Hotel

Readers of Business Traveller magazine have voted this the world's best business hotel, not once but several times. Perhaps the complimentary high-speed wireless internet throughout the hotel helped. It also has a contemporary Oriental-style look and feel, and designer furniture – far from being just another bland business hotel. Facilities include a luxury health spa and gym, business centre, and a choice of restaurants and bars

Renaissance London Heathrow Hotel

The Renaissance is on the A4 and closest to Terminals 1, 2, and 3 – and some of the rooms have wonderful views of the runways. There's a health club with treatment rooms and 24-hour fitness centre, a bar and restaurant, and all rooms are soundproofed with cable TV, wifi, voice-mail, and a desk.

Sofitel London Heathrow

The Sofitel was first into Heathrow's new Terminal 5 and used the chance to create a large luxury hotel with 605 rooms, including 27 suites. Its Brasserie Roux is looked after by Michelin-starred chef Albert Roux, while there are several bars and lounges including the Tea 5, for the perfect cup of English tea. There's also a spa with 5 treatment rooms, 24-hour gym, sauna and vitality pool. The rooms, naturally, have all that anyone would expect of a 5-star hotel.
