The square was named Council House Square after the Council House was built in the 1870's but it was renamed Victoria Square after the arrival of the statue of Queen Victoria in 1901. The Square stands at the junction of New Street, Paradise Street, and Colmore Row. The square underwent a complete renovation and redesign between August 1992 and June 1993 and was reopened by Diana, Princess of Wales on May 6, 1993. During that redesign, several works of art were installed in Victoria Square, the centerpiece of which is nicknamed the "Floozie in the Jacuzzi" by the locals. It is a statue that was installed as a water feature and is part of the installation created by Dhruva Mistry. Floozie in the Jacuzzi is actually named "The River" and represents the Life Force. It is the largest fountain in Europe and pumps 3,000 gallons of water per minute.
