This hotel was once a smuggler’s inn dating back to the 14th century. The poet Shelley supposedly honeymooned here in 1812. Much of the original character is retained in narrow corridors, creaking floorboards and crooked ceilings. Sixteen ensuite bedrooms are furnished in an elegant country style. Some rooms have views across the harbour towards the cliffs and moors beyond.
The dining room is intimate with lead light windows, oak paneling and an antique fireplace. The menu is adventurous and includes freshly caught fish and other local produce. Breakfast includes the traditional option of haddock and poached egg.
From here it is possible to explore beautiful Exmoor and fishing, golf and boat trips can be found close by.
