Walkers in the English Lake District can amble around lakes, stroll through ancient woodland and across lush meadows or climb the many fells.
Then at the end of the day they can relax in the comfort of a luxury hotel. Six new walks have been put together by English Lakes Hotels who will provide detailed maps,a free map holder and rucksack and transport luggage to the next hotel. The idea for the walks came after Simon Berry, the Managing Director of English Lakes Hotels, met Mervyn King, the Governor of the Bank of England. King commented that someone should devise walking routes between some of the Lake District’s best hotels. According to Simon Berry “Camping and youth hostelling is great fun but is not right for everyone. These new routes will enable people to walk between our four hotels in the Lake District, enjoying inspiring views and superb accommodation.”
Overnight accommodation will be in one of four individually styled Lake District hotels. The Famous Wild Boar Hotel in the GilpinValley is a traditional coaching inn. Storrs Hall is a Georgian mansion on the shores of Lake Windermere. The Waterhead in Ambleside is a contemporary four-star townhouse hotel which has been voted Cumbrian hotel of the year two years running. The Low Wood is a family friendly hotel right on the edge of Lake Windermere. It also boasts a leisure club and a popular watersports centre. It is possible to do a complete circuit of the hotels or just do one or two sections. You can download copies of the walks here.
