This is a quick look at some of the more popular things to do in Liverpool, as well as some tips for staying safe.
The city of Liverpool is home to some half a million permanent residents, a large commercial and waterside district, and a lot of history. Liverpool is a fairly large tourist destination due to several sites in particular, and the overall nature of the city itself. Some popular attractions include the Liverpool Cathedral, which is one of the largest in Europe, the Albert Dock, which is home to several museums, and the houses, concert sites, and other important aspects of the life of The Beatles, which can be visited by Taxi Tour. Liverpool's Diverse Collection of Activities – Museums and Clubs Liverpool has a thriving youth population, and many of the city’s areas are targeted towards young people. The commercial district, for example, has lots of places to shop, get a bite to eat, and check out unique and impressive buildings and plazas. There are a ton of nightclubs and bars, each with their own character, and there is a lot of life in the city after dark. This is not to say that only young people will enjoy themselves there – the museums and historic sites will have plenty to offer to those who enjoy history, architecture, arts, and sciences. The Maritime Museum and the Tate provide a great scope of Britain’s role in World War II and modern art, respectively. Things to Look Out For in LiverpoolWhile the city certainly bustles, and many if not most of the people are very friendly and willing to help a newcomer around, there are certain aspects of Liverpool to be wary of. The large youth population, especially when combined with the recent downturn in the economy (container ships have all but ruined the wharf businesses), mean a slightly higher non-violent crime rate than other English cities. One will frequently see shattered car window glass on the sidewalk, as one of the more common crimes is the breaking and entering of vehicles. If you are planning on having a car in Liverpool, it is recommended that you hide or remove items that might attract a burglar before leaving in your car. Keeping Safe in LiverpoolWhile there aren’t many terribly unsettling neighborhoods, there are some with enhanced security measures (razor wire is unfortunately a relatively common sight), there are certainly some places you shouldn’t be alone after dark. Knowing your neighborhood and those surrounding it is always a good idea, and keeping a small amount of money easily accessible and the bulk of it in a secure place will ideally minimize your loss in the event of a robbery. Liverpool has its tough and undesirable side, just like any big city, but knowing what to look for and what to avoid can keep you enjoying the parts of the city that are truly marvelous.
