Starting with the 20-21 June, London will be the scene of action-packed historical weekends where we will be go back in time with real jousts, banquets, river pageants.
A month long of celebrations has been organised by London Tourism and the Mayor's office. The city will be heaving with events retracing the long history of London with highlights during the week-ends. Take, for example, the Film Week-end on the 13 and 14 of June. London has been the backdrop for films since the 19th century. During this event London will celebrate its cinematographic landmarks. Living History Weekend, 20-21 JuneIf you want to live history and travel back in time, London is the place to be this summer. An incredible array of events covering several centuries from medieval times to D.Day has been organised by London's town hall. The 500th anniversary of King Henry VIII's coronation is celebrated this year too. To mark the occasion, there will be a number of events througout the summer and the town. Here are just two:
Eltham Palace Knights Possibly one of the most spectacular event wil take place at Eltham Palace. Eltham Palace is an amazing building situated near Greenwich. It's history goes back to 1086 and it was an important location for the royals throughout history before being bought by Stephen Courtauld and tranformed into a marvel of art deco. Henry the VIII grew up at Eltham Palace and to mark the Mayor's Story of London, knights will return to the Palace for the first authentic Tudor jousting tournament since his reign. Other Events During the Living History Weekend Aspley House, the most prestigious address in London will host a colourful family event featuring military display among which the Battle of Waterloo re-told by a raconteur who will use vegetables as props. "The Lives of Buildings" Weekend, 27-28 JuneThis weekend is organised by Open House and London Heritage and celebrates the richness of London's building from skyscrpers to medieval churches. This will be also a rare opportunitie to visit the nothing short of amazing Victorian Crossness Pumping Station This is only a small part of a series of events taking place in London for our enjoyment this summer.
