It was the exhibition that everyone had to see, and 1.7 million people did: the Tutankhamun Exhibition. It was one of the most successful and popular exhibitions that has ever visited London – the golden treasures of King Tutankhamun. Now Egypt’s famous boy pharaoh is set to return to London in a new Tutankhamun exhibition, when the first exhibition at the O2 Centre (formerly the Millennium Dome) will be Tutankhamun and the Golden Age of the Pharoahs.
Tutankhamun and the Golden Age of the Pharoahs will open at the O2 Centre in Greenwich on 15 November 2007. The exhibition will feature some 130 treasures from Tutankhamun’s tomb in the Valley of the Kings, at Luxor in Egypt. The new Tutankhamun exhibition will also have a gallery dedicated to King Tut’s discoverer, the British archaeologist Howard Carter, who was the first to gaze on the golden treasures when he opened Tutankhamun’s tomb in 1922.
The O2 Centre itself opens in July, and will be the focus of a new entertainment area for London. The O2 Centre will have a state-of-the-art indoor arena, where musical, sporting and other events will be staged. Bands like Take That and the Rolling Stones (already sold out), the Scissor Sisters and Justin Timberlake will be performing over the first few months, but Tutankhamun and the Golden Age of the Pharoahs will be the first major exhibition there.
Over 120,000 group tickets have already been sold for the new Tutankhamun exhibition, and tickets for individuals and groups smaller than ten people went on sale in June. See the special Visit London website for details by clicking here. You can also pre-register to be sure of getting tickets, and sign up for a choice of hotel packages including accommodation at the Hilton or Premier Travel Inn. Alternatively you can of course make your own travel arrangements, but tickets will be like gold dust and you should be sure to book ahead as far as possible.
Visit London has set up its special website to handle theTutankhamun exhibition ticket sales, and provide further information about hotel packages, group tickets, corporate events and special London package holidays too.
