Nunnington Hall YorkshireSinger Bryan Adam's Photographic Skills On Show by National Trust
Nunnington Hall, owned by the National Trust, is an unlikely but popular international concert and exhibition venue.
For over a decade, Bryan Adams' music has filled concert venues around the globe. Millions have flocked to hear live renditions of "Everything I do I do it for you" and "Summer of 69". For the next few weeks, in the unlikely setting of a North Yorkshire stately home, one of the superstar's lesser-known talents is on display. From 1 May to 10 June, Nunnington Hall, between Malton and Helmsley, hosts the first display in the UK of a stunning collection of Bryan's photographs entitled 'Portfolio'. Surprised? Well, Adams is more than a point and shoot amateur. Stern Magazine, in Germany, initially released the display at Nunnington and more of his work has recently featured in British Vogue and i-D. Thirty photos, ranging from the formal to the candid, make up 'Portfolio', . An equally varied subject list includes models, actresses, musicians, royalty, politicians and writers. The Queen and Keith Richards, Barbara Cartland and Tony Blair, Helena Bonham-Carter and The Pope are not names that are often linked; but all have willingly stared at the lens of this singing photographer. The display is attracting international attention; the last two stops were Rome and Slovenia and it will go on to Budapest after leaving Yorkshire. Surrounded by fields, in the heart of rural Yorkshire, Nunnington is an unusual venue for an international event; but Bryan Adams is not alone in choosing the venue. The National Trust owned property regularly hosts a diverse range of concerts and exhibitions. Future visitors include:
and for a couple of days in July, rides round the village will be given in the original car from the film Chitty Chitty Bang Bang . The hall and grounds open to the public daily, except Mondays, between March and November. Built mainly in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, the hall hosts a fascinating array of treasures. Pictures, ceramics, metalwork, antique furniture and eighteenth century mezzotints provide an insight into the hall's history under many different owners, including the 1st Viscount Preston and Henry VIII's physician. Peacocks strut freely around eight acres of organic grounds, on the banks of the River Rye. Lawns, orchards, rose beds, mixed borders, a tea garden, and an iris garden form a walled garden to the south of the property. Traditional Ryedale fruit trees blossom in meadows together with cowslip, primrose, snake's head fritillary, buttercup and camassia. Nunnington is a fascinating venue to suit a wide range of interests. For the next few weeks, visitors can decide whether music or photography has given Bryan Adams the best years of his life.
