Lancashire chef Paul Heathcote has done wonders for English food, and two of his restaurants have won the prestigious Bib Gourmand Award in the Michelin Guide 2007

Two of Paul Heathcote's restaurants – Simply Heathcote's Liverpool and the Winckley Square Chop House in Preston – have won the coveted Bib Gourmand Awards in the new 2007 edition of the food industry bible, the Michelin Guide. The Bib Gourmand Awards are given to restaurants which Michelin's food inspectors believe serve exceptionally good food at moderate prices.

The news comes as top English chef Heathcote announces the opening of another new restaurant in his growing empire. London Road in Alderley Edge, Cheshire, opens its doors to the public on March 23, 2007, and will be serving classical British and French food, with daily specials from a fresh fish counter, a small plates menu from the Robata grill, and a special children's menu too.

Dates and details of 2007 courses at Paul Heathcote's Longridge Cookery School have also been announced. These take place at the Chef's Table, which has been equipped with all the latest modern equipment. Courses include The Art of the Tart in June, Just Desserts in July and Cooking for Christmas in November and December.

If you can't attend a cookery courses but just want to try your hand at one of Paul Heathcote's recipes, his website always includes a Recipe of the Month.

Paul Heathcote made his name by rediscovering English food, and good English cooking, from his native Lancashire. He was born in Bolton, and spent 12 years working with the top English French chef, Raymond Blanc! He opened his flagship The Longridge Restaurant in 1990, and it has been serving some of the finest English food ever since. It was recently voted one of the top 5 restaurants in Britain by Observer Food Critic Jay Rayner, and was the only restaurant in the northwest of England to be included in the top five.
