Piccolino offers a wide selection of Italian meals in informal, relaxed surroundings, just a stone's throw from the wide-open spaces of Wimbledon Common.

This is the perfect restaurant for family dining after a brisk walk over Wimbledon Common or meeting up with friends for a night out. Situated on Wimbledon Village's High Street, Piccolino occupies a charming period building. As soon as you enter, you will see the light, airy contemporary bar area where you can come to sip cocktails before dinner or just enjoy a drink and nibbles. The main upstairs dining area is airy and well laid out, with some tables having views over the village main street – children will love to see the regular stream of horses and riders that pass through en route to treks on Wimbledon Common.

Traditional and Contemporary Italian Food in SW19

The menu offers an impressive range of traditional Italian dishes as well as those with a more contemporary twist. Starters at Piccolino are within an average price range starting at £4.60 for ribollita, 'a slow cooked bean, tomato, cabbage and herb soup' to £8.95 for carpaccio di manzo, a 'thinly slice beef fillet with mustard dressing, rocket and parmesan. A garlic bread pizza can also be purchased for a starter – this is ideal to share between four people.

Presented under the headings, insalate, risotto, pasta, pizza, pesce and carne, there is a wide variety of main courses to chose from within a price range of £8-£18 per dish. The canelloni alla zucca is particularly recommended - at £11.95, this delicious combination of winter baked squash and goat's cheese is a hearty vegetarian meal that will also be appreciated by meat-eaters who just fancy a change. The pizzas are baked in a woodstone oven, resulting in a light, crispy base which does not swamp the good quality toppings.

A Great Choice for Desert Lovers

Piccolino states that all its deserts are 'freshly prepared on the premises from carefully sourced premium ingredients'. The restaurant also makes its own ice-creams and sorbets - the dark chocolate gelatti is a great choice to round off a meal. A clever option on the desert menu when you just can't decide which to choose is the dolci con amici – 'a selection of deserts to share with friends: tirimisu, profiteroles, warm chocolate pudding, baked vanilla cheesecake and raspberries and strawberries with prosecco and vanilla syrup.'

Child-friendly Dining in Wimbledon Village

Although there is not a specific 'bambino' menu, children can choose from a variety of pasta, risotto and salad dishes that are available as half-portions. The staff are attentive to families dining with children and food is served quickly, both important factors to consider when taking younger members of the family out to eat.

Piccolino is also the perfect place to catch your breath over morning coffee in Wimbledon Village – freshly ground coffee is served from 10am onwards.
