The London Shops at ChristmasShopping in London is Good All Year but Definitely Best at Xmas
London has some of the world's best shopping and at Christmas the Oxford Street and Regent Street lights add some Xmas magic. In 2008 the London shops open early too.
For Christmas 2008 the shops in London's West End will be opening early for regular shoppers. Big stores often open their doors early to let celebrities do their shopping in private, but this year all shoppers will be able to do some early bird shopping in London. Stores across the West End will be opening from 7am on Friday 28th November and on into the Christmas season. London Shops with Early Bird OffersSome London shops will be providing their early shoppers with special temptations and surprise treats. The twenty stores making these special early offers will include Liberty, House of Fraser, Jaeger, Topshop, Miss Selfridge, Apple, Gap, Primark, Hamley's and Banana Republic. The London Christmas LightsThe annual tradition of the Christmas lights in Oxford Street and Regent Street continues into its 49th year in 2008. The Regent Street Christmas lights will be switched on first, on Thursday 6th November. The Oxford Street Xmas lights will then be added on Wednesday 12th November, when a mystery celebrity will be doing the honors at the House of Fraser. Expect street entertainment and a few surprises too. The Oxford Street Christmas Lights were first switched on in 1959, and have been put up every year since then. It's become a tradition for a world-famous celebrity to switch on the lights, a name that's kept secret for as long as possible. In 2007 it was singer Leona Lewis, while in previous years illustrious names like Bob Geldof, the Spice Girls, Richard Branson, Westlife, and Charlotte Church have been asked to light up the West End. Bond Street and Jermyn Street Christmas LightsOn Thursday 20th November the Bond Street 'Bond Noel' lights will illuminate one of London's most stylish shopping streets, and then on Saturday 27th November the big switch-on of the Jermyn Street Christmas lights will take place. VIP Christmas Shopping WeekendThe London Christmas shopping fun continues on the weekend of 6-7 December 2008. Saturday 6th sees the return for the 4th year of the popular Shop West End VIP (Very Important Pedestrians) Day. That's when Oxford Street and Regent Street will become traffic-free, making space for live music performances and celebrity guest appearances. Sunday 7th December sees the traffic return but that won't stop the fun of a family day on London's West End Streets. Over 600 stores in and around Oxford Street, Regent Street and Bond Street will be making special Christmas offers and having live entertainment, and in the streets there'll be more entertainment and games for children of all ages. * LinksRead about London Shopping in the West End.
